Atlantic Altar Ritual Zine Kit

Atlantic Altar ritual zine kit centerfold by Julia Arredondo

Atlantic Altar zine was written and compiled on the East Coast of Maine while completing an internship at the Haystack Mountain School. Atlantic Altar zine is directly inspired by the magic of the Atlantic Ocean and by the local library at the Haystack mountain school. The zine is included as part of a ritual kit to manifest desire and prosperity from a feminine perspective.
Currently out of print.

Zine details:

Inspired by Mami Wata, or Marta La Dominadora, Altantic Altar pays tribute to the orishas of water who control prosperity and desire. Utilizing the Haystack School library as the source for most imagery in the zine, Atlantic Altar includes a zine, a wax marker and a waterproof devotional image for ritual use.

The zine is an exercise in exploring the library as a site for divination, as in, the books utilized for the compositon chose to be found. The first time I became aware of books choosing to be found was when I was attending a workshop at the Penland School of Craft and a book of work by Ray Johnson was my companion for the duration of the trip. Ray was a student of the Black Mountain School in the region of where Penland is located.

This video is partial documentation of a closing ritual for my time at the Haystack Mountain School. I dedicated a copy of Atlantic Altar zine back to the Atlantic Ocean as an offering of gratitude and solidarity.
