Born in South Texas and now based in Maine, Julia Arredondo is a visual artist, printer, and independent publisher. Between 2010 and 2020, she produced over thirty-five solo and collaborative titles through her imprints, Vice Versa Press and Curandera Press, and is currently developing a new publishing entity focused on zines, cassette tapes, and contemporary devotional media. Arredondo holds an MFA from Columbia College Chicago and a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, with concentrations in book arts, paper, printmaking, and creative entrepreneurship. Her publications are held in the collections of the MoMA Archives and Library, the Thomas J. Watson Library at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Museum of Women in the Arts Library and Research Center, and the Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, among others.

Arredondo continues to research, design, and circulate work in the field of print, with special emphasis on the production of zines and countercultural ephemera. Rooted in analog processes, her graphic style grew from designing for DIY spaces where she explored print as a medium for storytelling, self-preservation, and community building. Arredondo has held appointments as Visiting Artist at Illinois State University, the Jaffe Center for Book Arts at Florida Atlantic University, the Lunder Institute for American Art at Colby College, Indigo Arts Alliance, and will serve as the 2026 Critic-in-Residence at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. Recent awards include support from the Rabkin Foundation, the Maine Arts Commission, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, and the Thoma Foundation.

Julia is a recent recipient of a Rabkin Travel Grant and is producing a publication with Women’s Studio Workshop in Spring of 2027.
